Excavate area to depth required so that finish grade can be established as noted on plans. Compaction % of the aggregate will vary from aggregate to aggregate. Prepare mock-up to confirm proper compacted depths. Compact subgrade to 95% modified proctor density.
Place base material to approved depth, and compact to 95% modified proctor density. Incorporate crowns or swales, where appropriate, to reduce the chance of sitting water.
Pre-blended Organic-LockTM/aggregate is available in select areas. Please consult Envirobond to determine closest dealer location. If pre-blended aggregate is available, jump to step 4. Where pre-blended aggregate is not available or not an option, please consult the instructions below.
Organic-Lock TM may be mixed with aggregate, conforming to the Optimal Aggregate Gradation chart
For optimal performance, Organic-LockTM must be blended to achieve a homogeneous mixture. Blending can be done using any of the following methods:
Factory – using a pug mill or ready-mix plant
On-site mechanical blending – cement mixer, Dakota
blender, volumetric mixer etc.
Existing surfaces – drop spreading and tilling or raking in.
Optional- the Organic-LockTM and aggregate mixture can be pre-blended with water (approx. 10% by weight)
The use of a paving machine is highly recommended for larger projects to evenly spread Organic-Lock™ Pathway Aggregate at the specified depth, though a box Gannon™ or similarly equipped tractor/loader can also be recommended. For small projects spread & grade by hand as per plans. If doing more than 3 inches, separate lifts are required.
Activate the Organic-LockTM by spraying water at an even rate over the entire surface. Add approximately 25-45 gallons of water per tonne of material.
After the material has a chance to surface dry (anywhere from 4-24 hrs), it is ready for compaction (time will be heavily determined by weather). If it is too “spongy” or it creates waves, it is too soon to roll. Make 3-4 passes to compact the material using a 1-5 ton double or single static drum roller.
